Meet Lewis.

Lewis Marchant

We all face troubles at some time in our lives – with our work, relationships, family, or with ourselves – and finding a mental health professional who is relatable can be difficult.

Lewis is a registered psychotherapist and builds real connection with his clients. Psychotherapy can help people develop greater insight into their lives, in order for them to live more fully. Lewis integrates psychodynamic psychotherapy and a sense of practicality to help people grow.

Lewis has helped people with overcoming depression, relationship issues, alcohol and other drug addiction, problem gambling, challenges with sexual identity and those struggling with career and life direction.

He has completed his clinical training for a Master in Psychotherapy and is currently writing his dissertation. Lewis has worked at Higher Ground Drug Rehabilitation, the AUT University clinic, Problem Gambling Foundation and in prisons.

Lewis grew up as the fifth generation on his family’s farm. His first degree was a Bachelor of Land and Property Management from Lincoln University. His interest in psychotherapy began whilst on exchange at Colorado State University and grew whilst learning to teach yoga in India.

Lewis has travelled extensively, including across four continents. Lewis has worked with a range of people of different genders, ethnicities, sexualities and cultures. He welcomes all people.

Men often have a difficult time speaking openly about what is going on for them – Lewis is someone they can relate to and trust.

In his spare time, Lewis enjoys refereeing rugby, practicing yoga and having philosophical discussions with his friends.

If you live in a small town or city it can be daunting to speak about personal matters – confidentiality is of utmost importance to Lewis.

He looks forward to meeting with you and developing a therapy bespoke to your needs.

“Lewis has been a wonderful psychotherapist to me—he is kind, understanding, and clearly genuinely cares. Though my background is different to his, I felt very seen and also constructively challenged. I always looked forward to our weekly sessions and his wise and gentle presence. He supported me through a difficult time in my life, and I’ve found the insights I gleaned to be continually valuable.

I would highly recommend him to anyone.”

The tree behind the name…

The name The Oaks Psychotherapy was grown out of visiting a large oak tree in Cornwall Park, Auckland whilst I was studying Psychotherapy at AUT.

It is a magnificent Algerian Oak with a canopy so large that when you stand beneath it, you feel sheltered from the busyness of the city.

This tree fostered reflection and solace. The Oaks Psychotherapy aims to be a place for others to feel sheltered, reflect and find solace.
